The American Revolution was built upon the rallying cry:
No taxation without representation. What this really
means, is you should get out of your country what you
put into it. If you are taxed, you should be fairly
represented in the government. Well, after this last
election I would put forth that the “Blue States” are not
getting their fair share of representation.
As you can see by the image below, in the year 2002, “Red
States” sucked up more government welfare than “Blue
States”. In 2003, the top 10 states that paid out more than
they received were ALL “Blue States” and the top 10
states that took more money than they gave were ALL
“Red States”.
Yet, as is clear by the last election, the “Red States” (or as I
like to call them, the “Welfare States”) seem to be getting
much more representation in both the Executive and
Legislative branches of government. What I’d like to
know is why the Welfare States get to determine the
course our country will take, when they can’t even seem to
pull their own weight. I think those of us who pay their
own way and help pay for others should get better
representation for their taxation!
And on another issue, why is it that the Welfare States get
to determine the definitions of “morality” in this country,
when they have higher divorce and murder rates then the
other states?
And why is it that the places that have no chance of
getting attacked by terrorists think terrorism is one of the
most important issues in this election? The fact is that the
places that actually GOT attacked on 9/11 (New York
City, Washington DC and Bucks County, Pennsylvania)
voted overwhelmingly for John Kerry. Shouldn’t THEY
be the ones who get to decide who could handle the threat
of terrorism better?
On his November 5th episode of Real Time, I think Bill
Maher summed it up for me when he said:
Stop saying that blue state people are out of
touch with the values and morals of the red
states. I’m not out of touch with them. I just
don’t share them. In fact, and I know this is
about 140 years late, but to the Southern
States, I would say, “Upon further
consideration, you CAN go. I know that’s
what you’ve always wanted, and we’ve
reconsidered. So go ahead — and take Texas
with you.” You know what they say. If at
first you don’t secede, try, try again.
If the Red States won’t go — and why should they, since
they’re the “Welfare Queens” sucking the rest of us dry —
maybe the rest of us should!
