[Editor’s Note: We got rear-ended on the road a few
days ago, and while I suffered no ill effects, Angela
suffers from whiplash and is in a great deal of pain.
Her pain medication leaves her “spacey” and in no
condition to attempt to form coherent thoughts that
she would care to have anyone else read. If she WERE
to write a column, it would look something like this...]
PAIN BAD. PAIN MEDICATION GOOD. SLEEPY NOW.
[Editor’s Note: Rather than torture her (and you) with
any further from her right now, I will use the rest of
this space to tell you more about the accident. The
rest of this will be boring for anyone who doesn’t
know us, so feel free to change the channel, err, flip
the page now.]
We were heading in to Corvallis on Highway 34 to listen to
fellow CSS member Bonnie Windish give an open-to-the public
presentation as part of her PHD work. The car in
front of us stopped suddenly, trying to merge into an
already-full left-turn-lane (at the 99W bypass). I stopped in
time. The car behind us didn’t. He swerved enough such
that he only hit the corner of the rear passenger-side
bumper, but we estimate he hit it at 40-45 MPH. He was
VERY sweet and apologetic, and the insurance adjuster has
already determined that WE were not in any way at fault.
Angela is on serious pain meds and will have to take some
physical therapy; the corner of the car’s rear bumper is
crumpled and the estimate on the car repair is over $1300.
